Since 2008, Rodney Malpert has served as a partner of Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy (collectively called Fragomen). With decades of experience in business immigration, Rodney Malpert attends the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM’s) Global Mobility and Immigration (GMI) conference.

The GMI’s annual symposium, formerly called the Council for Global Immigration, allows business professionals to learn how immigration affects companies from leading experts. To further their mission to improve workplaces around the world, the SHRM hosts the GMI annually. The GMI conference offers networking events where professionals can learn about emerging issues and trends. Guest speakers come from private companies, nonprofit organizations, and even government positions at all scales.

The GMI conference has three sponsoring companies, Fragomen, BAL (Berry Appleman & Leiden LLP), and WR Immigration Group. Before 2020, the event took place in person in Washington D.C., over the course of three or four days in June of the given year. In 2020, it occurred virtually over the course of two days in November.

Keynote speakers at the 2020 event discussed immigration through the lens of their field. Democratic Representative Zoe Lofgren of California, one creator of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act used her mixed experience as an immigration lawyer and legislator. Helen Frew, director of the Permits Foundation, explained the benefits of making it easier for mobile employees’ spouses and partners to find work.
