AILA is a professional body made up of law professors and attorneys who teach and practice immigration law. It has over 15,000 members, and each year since 1957, it has organized the American Immigration Lawyers Association Annual Conference. The conference is held in cities across the US and gives AILA members the opportunity to learn about and discuss the latest on immigration law and network.

In 2020 and 2021, the conference was held virtually due to COVID-19. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas was the keynote speaker at the 2021 event, and topics discussed included what the political landscape for immigration in congress looks like, what every new immigration lawyer should know, and best practices for remote representation during COVID-19.

In 2022, the conference will be held in person in New York City from June 15th to 18th, with an online option for those who would prefer to attend the event virtually. During the event, AILA will be celebrating its 75th Anniversary. AILA has already scheduled the next two annual conferences to take place in Orlando, Florida, from June 21st to 24th, 2023, and Chicago Illinois, from June 12th to 15th, 2024.
